Hellboy is a brilliant superhero story with a twist, a demonic prince fighting for the humans! There's no big black line between good and evil in the sense that it isn't about a good looking caped hero destroying monsters and foiling the plots of evil scientists. Not that there's any shortage of monsters and evil scientists in Hellboy!
Hellboy is wise cracking, sarcastic, hard as nails but with a heart of gold character, making him very likable... despite all appearances! And a gutsy heroine comes in the form of Liz, a woman with a firery temper and sharp wit.
The special effects in this movie are nothing short of absolutely awesome. Whether it's an exploding tooth fairy head or a giant golden killing machine, everything looks amazing.
This all said, I couldn't help being a tad disapointed in the plot line, which I felt was weaker than the first Hellboy, but the humour, characters and effects all made up for what is of course the curse of the sequel.
